David Starkey is a crassly stupid man in reality, an arrogant water-muddier who relishes poking sticks into hornets' nests:

This is a fabulous biography of the early life of Elizabeth, and I have read many.
I see that the Chatto and Windus edition took no notice of the content of this book, where it is stressed that this is about the young woman in the square-necked dress being so different from the lead-whitened face of Gloriana in her later years:
