Sarah and Ken by Rebecca Lenkiewicz

Sarah and Ken - Rebecca Lenkiewicz

bookshelves: spring-2011, play-dramatisation, mental-health

Read from May 13 to 17, 2011

Blurbs Rebecca Lenkiewicz's BBC Radio 3 full-cast drama starring Annette Crosbie and David Bradley about a love affair between two former foster siblings. Originally broadcast in the 'Drama on 3' slot on BBC Radio 3 on 11 July 2010.

A desperate love story, and a beautiful history of the treatment of mental health, written by one of Britain's foremost playwrights for the two lead actors. Sarah and Ken met as foster siblings, and fell in love. While he has married a good wife and fathered beautiful children, she has spent her whole life in institutions, and they have maintained a passion for each other that has no place in either of their surroundings. And now it's 1968 and time to change.

Featuring Annette Crosbie and David Bradley in the lead roles of Sarah and Ken, with Jessica Raine as Lorna. Also starring Christine Kavanagh, David Seddon, Vineeta Rishi and Jude Akuwudike. Directed by Jessica Dromgoole.

I have a problem with mental health 'care' that involves the Viking Kitteh 'help'. Very dark humour here.

"whoever invented a treatment like this"

"it was an Italian"

"Couldn't he have invented an ice-cream instead?"

"It was noticed that pigs in the slaughter house who were given electric shock before having their throats cut became calmer."
