Events surrounding St. Bartholomew’s Day 1572 and the rôle that Guise played in the murderous actions. It is a coded attack by the atheist Marlowe against the hypocrisies of both the catholics and protestants.
From a historical point of view this is good; for showing the eternal and revolting maneuverings of religious institutions and royal houses this is brilliant but there is little of the beguiling in the actual crafting.
