** spoiler alert ** Preface by Barry Paris

First up is Henrik Ibsen:

Ibsen by Munch Edvard Munch spent his early career in the bohemian community in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. Mentored by local painters like Christian Krogh, he tried his hand first at naturalism, then at impressionism. Later, he joined the prolific avant-garde in Berlin, where he met the playwrights Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg.

Ibsen the Pioneer page 3:
The Idealist (vast majority) - hides from truth about life.
The Compromiser(a sizable minority) - sees the truth but lives and even defends the lie.
The Realist (a tiny minority) knows the truth and fights for it.

August Strindberg

Chekhov (page 188) "most people are forced to lead empty lives because materialism kills the soul. Those who have a thinking mind - able to think - are a privileged minority"
