Thatcher 'murder' is BBC's Book at Bedtime: Radio 4 ignores protests to give Hilary Mantel's 'sick and perverted' fantasy a coveted broadcast slot.: The BBC provoked fury last night over its plans to broadcast a 'sick' story by bestselling author Hilary Mantel (main picture) that imagines the assassination of Margaret Thatcher. It has emerged that Radio 4 has selected the story, called The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher (bottom right), for its prestigious Book At Bedtime slot - sparking a furious backlash. Ms Mantel's story depicts the callous murder of the former Prime Minister (bottom left) by an IRA gunman and was inspired by the author's own fantasy about assassinating Lady Thatcher, who she admits to 'detesting'.
