Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm

Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm: A New English Version - Philip Pullman, Jacob Grimm

Description: The two Grimm brothers published their first volume of stories, Children's and Household Tales, in 1812 although there were some who disputed their suitability for young minds. Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm devoted their lives to collecting these German folk tales. Inspired by the rise of Romanticism and interest in traditional national stories and lore, in the end they collected more than 200.
Philip Pullman reads the first of five of his re-workings of Grimm Tales, written to celebrate the 200th anniversary of their publication.

1/5 The Riddle: A prince takes it into his head to travel the world with his faithful servant.

2/5 The Musicians of Bremmen: Four unwanted animals decide to take up music.

3/5 The Moon: A country where the night is always dark and not one star twinkles discovers moonlight.

Rumpelstiltskin: 4/5 A miller's daughter must spin straw into gold for the king, or lose her life.

Little Red Riding Hood: 5/5 'Oh granny, what big ears you've got.' The errand of cake and a bottle of wine.

These are such bland renditions. Heaven knows why this has over a four star rating average.
