Opening: Now, it is impossible to say definitely whether it all really did happen or not, because the incident which set the whole affair in motion (which, until recently, was still in motion) happened in the village of Krasnoye so long that there are practically no eye-witnessess left from that time.
This reads like a cross between Woyzeck (before the murder), The Good Soldier Svejk and Chichikov from Dead Souls.
