Drood by Dan Simmons

Drood - Dan Simmons, Simon Prebble

bookshelves: dickensphenalia, published-2009, victoriana, dodgy-narrator, room-101

Read in October, 2009

mp3 Unabridged and superbly read by John Lee.

Dan Simmons is one cheapskate, tacky guy. I am verily outraged (hee, I do so love to be outraged from time to time) that so much time in Drood is given over to the premise of The Terror under the guise of The Frozen Deep. Flying under the literary radar like this is just revolting

Plug, plug, plug - grrr.

Anyway, this grating aspect aside, Drood has been seen and heard flitting, nay!, fair gliding around the train crash and the circumlocutory route is in keeping with the verbosity of the Victorian era and is not in itself a turn-off but the overall effect is just not for me at this time.
